Every October thousands of travelers visit tiny Jonesborough, Tennessee. They come for one purpose: to hear and tell stories at the National Storytelling Festival. This annual celebration of America's rich, diverse oral tradition is the spark that has ignited a national revival of appreciation for the storytelling art.
The 1992 National Storytelling Festival marks the 20th anniversary of this internationally acclaimed event. To commemorate this milestone in the history of America's storytelling renaissance, the National Association for the Preservation and Perpetuation of Storytelling has published this book: Best-Loved Stories Told at the National Storytelling Festival. This anthology's 37 tales make up a sampler drawn from the hundreds of stories that have been told on crisp October days and nights since the festival's inception.
